Vietto Roero Arneis

2019

The story of the Arneis grape is one of an underdog. Initially unknown, it found its place in the vineyards of Piedmont, Italy, planted among Nebbiolo vines to deter birds and ensure fruitful maturation. With its quick ripening and sweet aromas, Arneis proved to be the perfect tool for protecting the main crop.

In 1966, Alfredo Currado, winemaker at Vietti, recognized the potential of this grape and ventured into producing a white wine to complement his portfolio of local reds. Despite skepticism, Currado's persistence paid off, and today, Arneis is celebrated for its unique character, offering a beautiful mouthfeel reminiscent of a red wine, enveloping the palate and edges of the mouth. The Roero zone, with its sandy soils, provides an ideal environment for the Arneis variety. Thriving alongside renowned Piedmont wines like Barbaresco and Barolo, Arneis adds its own distinct charm to the region's viticultural landscape and surpasses the acres of Nebbiolo planted, 2000 to 500 acres.
